Masturbation and clitoris take on a great prominence among the sexual preferences of women. This is what a study prepared by the ecommerce platform Birchbox in collaboration with the erotic toy brand Platanomelón reveals, through a comprehensive survey of sexuality to more than 10,900 women.
The results of the questionnaire, whose main objective is to eliminate taboos to talk about sex as a basic aspect to strengthen self-esteem and confidence in it, reveal that 61% of women find it easier to reach orgasm through external stimulation or clitoral stimulation, which demystifies Coito centrism, a generalized trend that considers that if the practice of sexual intercourse does not end in penetration they are not satisfactory or complete.
In the same vein, research revealed that 68 per cent of women have ever faked an orgasm, or about 7 in 10 have ever. The reasons that have led them to do so are not to make their partner feel bad (47%), to finish the relationship as soon as possible (37%) and to erode the situation (31%).
Foreplay and Masturbation: Essential
Eighty-seven per cent of the women surveyed made it clear that it attached great importance to other practices in addition to penetration. Monica Branni, a psychologist and sexologist at Platanomelón, explains in the study’s conclusions that when practices such as oral sex, manual stimulation and kissing are combined, the odds of reaching orgasm increase significantly: 8 out of 10 women manage to reach orgasm more easily, compared to 3 in 10 when penetration is performed alone.
In terms of masturbation, the study shows that half of Spanish women do so at least once a week (52%); 59% replied that the best time was night, 28% in the afternoon and 13% in the morning.
Sexual practices
On the other hand, up to 37% of women say it is easier to reach orgasm by themselves. Branni points to the fact that if you know your body it’s easier for you to know how to give you pleasure and get to orgasm alone. In addition, more than half of them claim to use sex toys, both in pairs and alone.
As the study is distilled, Spanish women like oral sex (83%), while the practice of anal sex is not so widespread, as only 22% responded that they like it.
