These are the problems your body can suffer if you go to bed late

Sleeping the necessary hours is something that doctors have been telling us since we were born, but many people stay up overnight for insomnia, worries, or last-minute jobs.

Although it may manifest in simple shiners or yawns in the short term, the body may reflect more serious long-term consequences.

1. Weight Gain

If you sleep for a few hours for some time, your body can begin to get fat.

According to a study conducted by Weill Cornell Medical College, Qatar, if you sleep just 30 minutes each night, you could experience weight gain and insulin resistance.

The study, which featured 522 volunteers, found that people who took longer to fall asleep were 72 per cent more likely to be obese.

2. Loss of sexual appetite

A study by the University of Michigan (United States) has shown that, among women, sleep duration is related to a greater desire to have sex.

The research indicated that, just after an extra hour of sleep, there was a 14 per cent increase in the likelihood of having sex the next day.

The study also found that women who slept longer hours achieved better genital arousal and greater ability to reach orgasms.

3. High blood pressure rise

This other study by the Las Condes Clinic (Chile) states that all those who sleep a few hours are more likely to have an increase in blood pressure during the night.

When blood pressure rises overnight, it is worrying. When this happens, you are indicating that the heart works longer than it should during your rest period.
