Avocado is one of the best allies to get rid of so-called LDL cholesterol, popularly known as bad cholesterol. This is demonstrated by a new study from Pennsylvania State University.
According to this research, this type of cholesterol can be controlled by consuming an avocado a day and maintaining a diet with moderate fats.
How did they do the Study?
For the research, experts had the participation of 45 healthy people, overweight or obese, between the ages of 21 and 70.
Volunteers followed a typical American diet, i.e. with a high fat content, for two weeks. After 14 days, they performed three types of diets: one low-fat, one moderate in fat and, finally, a moderate diet in fat, but including an avocado.
Results
Data from his analyses revealed that bad cholesterol was lower in the diet that included avocado compared to the other two that did not have this fruit.
The samples also showed a reduction in total cholesterol and triglycerides, a type of fat present in the blood.
Reduce the risk of heart disease
The findings of the study, which have been published in the American Journal of the American Heart Association, show that replacing saturated fat with avocados leads us to a cardiohealthy diet that can help reduce the risk of heart disease.
